Even though we are supposedly one of the States with the lowest incidence of swine flu, we’re still affected as Guilford High will remain closed until at least Wednesday, with 42% of students having been absent on Thursday.
Dr. Thomas Forcella, Guilford Superintendent said, “It was becoming very difficult to run classes when we were approaching 50 percent of the school absent. You could have classes that have 20 kids normally, having eight or ten kids.”
Absences have been rising all week. At first, schools were canceling just after school activities and sports. However, after seeing the absentee numbers from Friday and talking to state health officials, they decided to shut the school down all together.
